Well for me the trip started badly, with even more mini-bus faff (and Matt wasn't even involved) than usual (yes, I know it's hard to believe!). Well after spending most of Friday with Mike sorting out the buses, things started to improve with a relative smooth trip down to Wales, and then arriving to find the bar still serving at 12 PM, cool!!! The only downer was the other bus had beaten us there and were already pissed, gits!!! After getting the bus stuck in a wet, muddy field (it was Ruth's fault, but I didn't care as I was in the nice warm bus, unlike everyone else who had to stand and push in the rain especially Mike who was standing behind the wheel as it flung mud over him, ha ha!!), we erected (whey hey) the tents in half a field the other half had turned into a lake (a good sign - well for canoeing anyway!). The next day we got up (whey hey) early, and went for a hearty breakfast with free newspapers and tea and toast refills, then on to the river to begin our paddling. The river was high (cool) and the freshers looked scared (cool). After a minimal faff (I'm lying) we all got on what proved to be a fairly straightforward but enjoyable section, due to the high levels. Gary and me paddled the lower section afterwards to check it out for the next day (honest gov!!) and Tony collected us after a very nasty visit to the local toilets (ask him about it, as it's far to nasty to print here!!) Saturday evening was promising to be a good night. It started with chips and a beer or two in Brecon, while watching the Rugby. Mike found a shop that sold cheap fleeces in black or a pukey orange colour, been the first there he choose to buy the orange one. Well we won't miss him. Helen brought a dry cag (must be a first for a fresher to buy a cag so early on into the year). We then went back to the campsite where I was delighted to discover that all drinks were £1.25 each all night and when asked what time they were closing the answer went something like, when you've drunk all the beer we have (cool!!!). There was a Bar-B-Que. laid on for us, as well as some fireworks. The disco was good although the DJ, told us he was playing the last record at 11pm, but was still to be heard at 1.30am. I think what he meant was that at 11pm he had played his entire record collection and after that he had to repeat them all!!! All in all a superb night, with everyone been very pissed, I think the highlight for me was the pinball contest. Basically, the game went Marco, John and Anna played and if John won, he got to snog Anna, if Marco won he got the pleasure of the kiss, and if Anna won Marco and John had to snog. Marco won and we should have photo evidence of his prize, although perhaps John is the real winner as he got to snog Anna and Marco (allegedly!!!). I can't think of any other gossip, except for Moonboots (aka Gemma) has nice knickers! Sundays paddle was good. Slightly harder than the previous day, but with no real problems. I was impressed how many people got on for the second day, and how well all the freshers are improving, they're all better than Gary already!!! by Lee Rogers |
